SAW is pleased to announce its sponsorship of the Patrick Spielman Memorial Scholarship Program.

Pat Spielman was one of the driving forces behind the formation of the Scrollsaw Association of the World. SAW is the result of his aspirations for the scrolling community. Pat served as a member of the Board of Advisors for SAW. He was also the first recipient of the Lifetime Membership Award given out by SAW. Pat was a lifelong teacher both in his classes and through his books. We felt it would be appropriate to dedicate this Scholarship program to the memory of Pat Spielman.

Applicants must be high school seniors or graduates, age 24 and under (US or Canadian residents only), who plan to enroll, or students who are already enrolled in a full time undergraduate course of study at an accredited two or four year college, university, or vocational-technical school.

Canadian Students Only - The applications are to be done in English. You can attend school in Canada or the US . The scholarship checks are in US dollars. In previous years Canadian recipients have had to pay tax on scholarship awards. The Canadian government is trying to eliminate that tax. We are in constant communication with Canada about this. Hopefully the elimination of this tax will be granted.

Each applicant must be sponsored by a SAW member. The sponsor must be in good standing with SAW (membership must be valid and not lapsed). If a Local Chapter is sponsoring the applicant, a SAW member from that chapter should be utilized as the individual sponsor.

Eligible educational disciplines include, but are not limited to:

Only the first 25 applications will be considered. Financial need will not be considered. Awards are for one year only. Recipients are not eligible to reapply. Awards are for undergraduate study only.

Up to two awards of $1000 each will be granted. The number of scholarships offered is based on the number of applications. One (1) to twelve (12) applications, we offer one (1) scholarship; thirteen (13) or more, we offer two (2) scholarships.  Award money is sent to the educational institution.
