Special Notices

#1) Did you know that your current Board of Directors (BOD) are relatively new and probably the most inexperienced BOD there has been since the original BOD formed this organization? That's why it is very important for all the members of SAW to be as active as possible with the organization. However, with that said, your current BOD is very dedicated to being a cohesive group that is trying very hard to revitalize SAW.
We ask that you please bear with us as we continue to fit into our positions and understand them even better.

#2) Did you know that we had limited access to our financial accounts during the treasurer switch over? We're very pleased to announce that we've finally been able to get all the financial accounts switched over to our new Treasurer (we've been working on this issue since June). We're also proud to announce that we have found a way (and implemented it) to make sure this type of transition goes a LOT smoother in the future, should this same type of situation unfold.

#3) Did you know that Leldon Maxcy and John Nelson were recently appointed as the editors of the Sawdust Magazine. Since they have taken over the helm of the Sawdust Magazine, they have given it a complete makeover. SAW has received nothing but positive reviews from our membership since the makeover.

#4.) Did you know that our website has also crashed in the past few months and had to be reworked to get it back up and running? This of course had nothing to do with organization, as it stemmed from the host of our website. We'd like to thank Squire for all of his time and hard work to get the site switched over to another host. We hope that this didn't have any negative impact on our members.

#5.) Did you know that SAW continues to have problems filling positions in both the BOD and the Board of Advisors (BOA). SAW really needs every member to help in any way possible. Otherwise, there is no way for the organization to continue as it takes more than a handful of people to run an organization. It would be GREAT if Local Chapters would take the lead and actively vote in the next election. Currently there have been no members of any type to step up and volunteer to run for the BOD. The BOD has asked Brian Emerson to consider staying on the BOD for another year. He has volunteered to run in this election to help out for another year. If you're interested at all in running for the BOD, please let one of the BOD members know so that your name can be added. Or you can simply write your name in on the election form in the next issue of the Sawdust Magazine.

#6.) Did you know that there is a necessary update / change that HAS to take place with the SAW liability insurance? We're currently working on this item as efficiently as possible so that there is NO interruption in coverage.

#7.) Did you know that members of your BOD attended the Midwest Scroll Saw Trade Show this past August? We were there to help promote SAW and help our membership grow. Even one our Local Chapters (Chicagoland Scrollers) were there and set up a SAW Booth to help promote SAW. BOD members and Local Chapter members will once again be at the show next year to help promote SAW by assisting in any way possible.

#8.) Your BOD will continue to encourage any type of change for the good of SAW. We will also work on ways to communicate better with not just our new members, but all members. This includes making telephone calls if warranted.

For the past couple of months, your SAW Board of Directors have been focusing on the 2016 Expo that was scheduled to be held in Springfield, Mo. next year (2016). Unfortunately, the BOD member that was working on the EXPO resigned his position unexpectedly. And after a lot of research and consideration, we have decided NOT to move forward with the EXPO and cancel it. We want to do what we feel will be in the best interest of our members and organization. We do not want to plan an event unless we're certain that it will be successful by having good support from members and Chapters where the event will be held.
Here is where the problem arises. There are no chapters within close proximity that have stepped forward to help plan, set-up, work the show and competition. Vendors that we have spoken to are very concerned about the EXPO and what will attract scrollers.
We know all chapters would like to have an EXPO in their area for convenience and economics. While we believe that an EXPO is a must, we will continue to reevaluate the possibility of having one in the near future. We will also continue to look for input from our members and SAW Chapters to ensure an EXPO is not only held, but is done right and is a successful show.

Have you recently changed your EMAIL adddress, Mailing address or Telephone number? If so, please let us know as other members won't be able to look you up in the "member lookup" tools. All you need to do is send an email to the "Home Office" listing your updates. You can use the "Contact Us" page on the SAW Website.

Local Chapters are in place or are being founded in many areas of  the country. Members of Chapters are the enthusiastically addicted scrollers from a geographic area. All scrollers are invited to join and share their knowledge with the group. New scrollers can learn from the combined experience of the group's members. This is your opportunity to join in and explore the advantages of membership in this growing and vital Association.

Your membership will immediately give you a subscription to our quarterly newsletter, SAW Dust, and a copy of our current annual Resource Directory. These publications will enhance your scrolling, enlarge your community, and give you a valuable start to learning more about this wonderful craft. You can explore many of these benefits on these pages, but you will not have the full benefit of membership until you join the Scrollsaw Association of the World.

Join now and become a part of this growing community!
